Clinical Consultant
John has worked in the counseling profession since 1982. Licensed in New Jersey as a Licensed Professional Counselor, he has extensive experience working as a college psychotherapist, employee assistance professional, and in private practice. In addition, he served as an adjunct professor in the Counselor Education graduate program at Kean University since 1988. Since retiring from the practice of mental health counseling, he is engaged in consultation, supervision, and training of counseling professionals and organizations. He holds a B.A. degree in philosophy in addition to an M.S. and Specialist (Professional Diploma) degrees in Counselor Education, all from Long Island University.
As a result of his undergraduate studies in philosophy, he became interested in utilizing philosophical teachings of ancient stoic philosophers and existentialism in his counseling work. To that end, he received extensive post-graduate training in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute and the Viktor Frankl Institute in Abilene, Texas. His post graduate studies culminated in his earning Diplomate and Training Faculty status at both the Ellis and Frankl Institutes. In addition, he is an Associate Member and Supervisor of the International Association of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. John is an accredited member of the International Association of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis at the Viktor Frankl Institute, Vienna, Austria.
John holds Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) status with the Center for Credentialing and Education and is a five-time recipient of the National Board for Certified Counselors “Special Recognition for Outstanding Merit in the Area of Continuing Education”.
