Internship

Learn with us. Work with us.

The purpose of the Citron Hennessey internship is to build on your academic training by offering a solid grounding in the practice of culturally aware psychotherapy with a focus on evidence-based and internal locus of control modalities, including REBT, ACT and Reality Therapy. It combines practical and experiential components within a supportive and challenging private practice environment. It is not intended to be a social justice or social work training.

You will experience the practical and ethical issues of working directly with adult clients in a variety of situations, and develop essential communication and counseling skills.

The course will encourage you to examine your beliefs, assumptions and attitudes in order to help others do the same. You will be expected to develop your capacity to reflect on your own interpersonal and emotional processes, patterns and experiences primarily through an internal locus of control perspective.

By the close of the internship it is anticipated that you will be able to :

  • Establish and maintain an assigned caseload.
  • Focus on clinical formulation, case conceptualization, goal setting and treatment planning.
  • Apply appropriate theory, methodology, and counseling skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate willingness to meet your professional obligations with commitment.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and respond in a professional manner to constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate the personal traits conducive to effective counseling, learning and professional development.

The internship experience at CHT provided me with both the confidence and expertise to step into unknown spaces with confidence and humility

In the exploration of my personal narrative and abilities as a future counselor, the internship experience at CHT provided me with both the confidence and expertise to step into unknown spaces with confidence and humility.

Having the opportunity to learn from experienced counselors in various modalities, as well as my peers, was both effective and gratifying as it has helped shape me into the counselor I am today. I still continue to learn from my experiences from internship
